Greece Ran Entirely On Renewable Energy For The First Time in History.
According to the independent power transmission operator (IPTO). On Friday, 7 October, for a period of around five hours, the country ran entirely on renewable power, reaching a record high of 3,106MegaWatts at eight o’clock (GMT).
This is a major milestone for Greek energy according to IPTO since ”For the first time in the history of the Greek electricity system, the demand was covered 100% from renewable energy sources.”
The IPTO also added that ”With the interconnections implemented by IPTO on land and sea, new electrical capacity is created for even greater RES (renewable energy sources) penetration that will make our energy mix even greener in the coming years.”
Meme Of The Week.

A Clean Energy Trifecta: Wind, Solar, And Battery Storage.
Elected officials and energy company executives gathered last week in rural Oregon to mark the completion of the Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility. A project that combines a wind farm, solar array, and battery storage.
This is the fourth and largest project in the United States to combine those three renewable energy resources on the same site.
Energy companies call this combination a "hybrid" power plant, an increasingly popular approach to development in which companies see the opportunity to save money and provide a steadier electricity output by building different renewable resources next to each other.
Fascinating Fact.
The United States, Russia, China, Canada, and Brazil are the top five producers of hydropower.

Green energy currently relies primarily on lithium-ion batteries for storage, however, lithium is not the most environmentally friendly, cheap, or safe chemical element we could be using. Now, scientists from MIT have created a new battery made from aluminium and sulphur. Link
Pesticides can be immensely harmful to insect species, especially bees. But a new study has found that ants can protect crops from damage just as well as harmful pesticides, at lower costs. Ants protect crops from pests like caterpillars and bugs. And their labyrinthine-like tunnels also aerate the soil, helping plants suck up oxygen. Link
For some architects, the appearance of standard monochrome solar panels is an obstacle when integrating them into projects. Now researchers from the American Chemical Society have created solar panels that can take on a whole range of colours while producing energy just as efficiently as traditional ones. Link
